Who we are
MikroPay (“MikroPay”, “we”, “us”) operates the platform at mikropay.gm, which lets businesses in The Gambia sell WiFi access from their own MikroTik routers, paid for by mobile money. By creating an account or using the platform you agree to these terms.
What MikroPay is (and is not)
MikroPay is software. It connects your MikroTik router to a payment page, provisions WiFi access when a customer pays, splits the revenue, and gives you a dashboard, alerts, and reports.
MikroPay is not an internet service provider. The internet connection, the router, and the WiFi service your customers buy are yours. You are the seller in every WiFi transaction; MikroPay facilitates the payment and the technical provisioning.
Your account
- You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding agreement.
- The information you register with — including your business name and mobile money payout details — must be accurate and kept up to date.
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials and your router’s admin access secure, and for everything done through your account.
- Every account starts with a free trial. After that you pay a monthly plan, set out below, and there is no minimum sales requirement. MikroPay does not take a percentage of your sales.
What MikroPay charges
MikroPay does not take a percentage of your sales. You keep 100% of every WiFi sale you make. Instead you pay a monthly plan for your account, and online payments carry a flat processing fee.
- Your plan is a monthly fee based on how many routers you have. Each plan has a price for your first router and a lower price for each additional active router. The current prices are shown on the pricing page and in your dashboard before you choose. Deactivating a router removes it from your next bill.
- The rates you subscribe at are the rates you keep. They are recorded on your subscription when you start it, so a later change to a plan’s published price does not change what you are billed.
- Online payments carry a flat D2 processing fee per sale. This is not a share of the sale: it is what collecting a mobile money payment costs, and it does not rise with the price of the pass. It applies only to sales taken through the payment page, and never to a ticket you sell at your counter.
- Printed tickets are unlimited and free on every plan. A ticket you print and sell at your counter costs you nothing beyond your plan, however many you print.
- Every account starts with a free trial of the length shown when you register. Nothing is charged during it, and no payment details are required to begin. You choose a plan before it ends; if you do not, the plan your trial ran on is the one invoiced.
- Individual pricing can be agreed for high-volume or partner businesses, and is recorded on your subscription in the same way.
- If we change the published price of a plan, we will give you at least 14 days’ notice by email or dashboard notice before it applies to you.
If a bill goes unpaid
We would rather hear from you than pause your account. If a plan payment is late, we email you, and your account continues exactly as it is through a grace period shown in your dashboard.
- Nothing changes at first. Your WiFi keeps selling, your customers are unaffected, and every feature stays on through the grace period.
- After the grace period, paid features are switched off until the bill is settled. Selling keeps working: reports, charts, imports and adding new routers, staff or ticket batches are the things that pause.
- If the bill remains unpaid, the account is paused. New sales and new tickets stop.
Three things are true throughout, and they do not change when an account pauses:
- Every pass and ticket your customers already bought keeps working until it runs out. A billing matter between us is never taken out on the people who paid you.
- Your earnings remain yours and can be withdrawn at any time, paused or not.
- Your router is left exactly as it is and stays connected. Paying the outstanding bill restores everything immediately, with nothing to set up again.
Where you have a balance with us, we settle an outstanding bill from it automatically and tell you we have done so. Suspension for misuse of the service is a separate matter and is covered under acceptable use.
Payments and payouts
Customer payments are processed by ModemPay, a payment service provider licensed by the Central Bank of The Gambia. MikroPay is not a bank and is not itself licensed by the Central Bank.
Each sale is collected in full into MikroPay’s ModemPay account. The proceeds, less the flat processing fee stated above, are credited to your MikroPay balance straight away. The funds stay with ModemPay, inside the licensed institution, until you withdraw them.
You can request a withdrawal at any time once your balance reaches the minimum shown on your Withdraw screen. We send it to the mobile money account you registered and we do not deduct a fee from it. Withdrawals are paid to Wave or AfriMoney only, even though customers may pay you through other networks.
Withdrawals are sent in whole dalasi, because that is all the mobile money networks accept. If your balance includes part of a dalasi, we send the whole-dalasi amount and the remainder stays on your balance and is added to your next withdrawal. Nothing is lost. Your Withdraw screen shows both your balance and the amount that will be sent, and we tell you what is being carried over before you confirm.
Payout timing depends on ModemPay and the mobile money operators. Delays inside those networks are outside MikroPay’s control, though we will help you chase them.
Failed sessions and refunds
If a customer pays but the WiFi session cannot be provisioned, the payment is refunded to the customer through the same payment channel. Refunded sales earn nothing for either of us: a sale refunded before you withdraw simply stops counting toward your balance, and one refunded after you have already withdrawn it is deducted from your next withdrawal. Disputes a customer raises about the WiFi service itself (speed, coverage, opening hours) are between you and your customer; disputes about the payment are handled with ModemPay.
Your responsibilities
- You own or lawfully control the router and the internet connection you resell.
- You set your own package prices and are responsible for honouring what you sell.
- You are responsible for any taxes, levies, or regulatory obligations that apply to your business and its income.
- You must comply with the laws of The Gambia, including any telecommunications rules that apply to offering public WiFi.
- You will not misrepresent MikroPay — for example, MikroPay itself is not licensed by the Central Bank of The Gambia and you must not claim otherwise; payment processing is provided by ModemPay under its licence.
Acceptable use
You must not use MikroPay to:
- process payments for anything other than WiFi access sold through the platform;
- commit fraud, launder money, or evade sanctions;
- interfere with the platform, other tenants, or the payment infrastructure; or
- resell platform access in a way that hides who is operating the hotspot.
Availability
The platform is provided as is. We work to keep it running around the clock but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability — of the platform, of the payment networks, or of your own router and internet connection. Your router keeps serving WiFi as a normal router even when the platform is unreachable; only new paid sessions are affected during an outage.
Suspension and leaving
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, is used fraudulently, or creates risk for the payment network — where practical we will warn you first. You can stop using MikroPay at any time: there is no lock-in, and disconnecting the platform leaves your router working as an ordinary MikroTik. Earnings already split to your mobile money account are yours regardless.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, MikroPay’s total liability for any claim arising from the platform is limited to the platform fees MikroPay earned from your sales in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for lost profits, lost customers, or losses caused by your internet connection, your router hardware, the mobile money networks, or events outside our reasonable control.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. For material changes — including any change to what a plan costs — we will notify you by email or in your dashboard at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the platform after that date means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of The Gambia, and any dispute that we cannot resolve together falls under the jurisdiction of the courts of The Gambia.
